I am a member of the American Legion Auxiliary since 2011 and presently at Williston Unit 144. I've held the following positions since joining: Chaplain, Community Service Chair, Secretary, Nassau County Sgt. at Arms and Public Relations Committee Chair and since September, 2025, 2nd Vice President/Ways & Means and Sgt. at Arms at Williston Unit 144. The American Legion Family consists of: the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion and American Legion Riders. For the past several years, I've had the honor of singing The National Anthem and God Bless America at both Memorial Day in May and Veterans Day ceremony in November at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, N.Y.
The American Legion Auxiliary was formed in November, 1919, just months after the American Legion. At that time, the American Legion Auxiliary was comprised of women only, but as of August, 2019, the American Legion Auxiliary is open to spouses, both male and female, of American Legion members. The American Legion Auxiliary is the largest, all-inclusive volunteer organization in the USA serving active military, veterans, children and youth. Also, the American Legion eligibility requirements, as of 2019, have broadened. (See website: www.WillistonPost144.org). Whereas, prior to that time, veterans were eligible only if they served during war periods, but now, veterans can join the American Legion for any and all periods of time since World War I. This change has opened up benefits for an additional 6,000,000 veterans. I would invite you to come and join us.
